YouTube Now Allows US Content Creators to Get Paid with PayPal Stablecoin: Fortune

YouTube has allowed U.S. content creators to receive their earnings in PayPal’s PYUSD stablecoin (PYPL), according to a Fortune report, citing May Zabaneh, head of crypto at PayPal.

“The beauty of what we’ve built is that YouTube doesn’t need to touch crypto and so we can help eliminate that complexity,” Zabaneh said. She added that PayPal introduced the PYUSD payment option for payment recipients in Q3 2025, with YouTube opting to extend it only to US creators.

The move highlights how major tech platforms including Apple, Airbnb and X are increasingly exploring stablecoins as a means of payment, allowing companies to avoid directly manipulating digital assets. One of the most prominent examples of PayPal’s stablecoin being used for creator monetization is the use of PYUSD by YouTube, part of Google (GOOG), expanding its role beyond back-end payments into consumer-facing revenue streams.

PYUSD, unveiled in August 2023 and issued by stablecoin infrastructure company Paxos, was designed for seamless conversions, cross-border transfers, subscriptions, vendor payments and near-instant settlement within the PayPal ecosystem, with a focus on everyday commerce and reducing banking delays and volatility risks.

The stablecoin has since gained traction, gaining support from Visa’s stablecoin settlement platform alongside and Circle’s EURC. PYUSD is now the sixth largest stablecoin, with a market capitalization of $3.9 billion, according to data tracked by CoinGecko.

PayPal and Google did not immediately respond to CoinDesk’s request for comment.
