In an interesting development, President Asif Ali Zardari returned to Lahore for a two-day stay during which he will hold a crucial meeting with the president of the PML-N Nawaz Sharif, sources revealed Thursday.
This is Zardari’s second visit to the provincial capital of Punjab in a week. The president, who is also co -president of the PPP, was in Lahore on February 22 and 23.
Earlier, it was reported that the president was to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during the stay. However, no meeting of this type took place.
The supreme chief of the PPP, however, held a meeting with the provincial leadership of the party, which informed him of the difficulties that the PPP was confronted in the political power of the country.
However, this time, the president is expected to meet the president of the PML-N Nawaz Sharif, sources announced on Thursday.
They said the meeting will focus on the discussion of the challenges encountered by the PPP in Punjab. The governor of Punjab, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, will also be present in Reunion.
Key decisions will be made to respond to PPP’s concerns in Punjab. The president will also meet with central Punjab leaders, added the sources.
Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif met the management of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) of his party on Thursday.
On this occasion, the former senator and central information secretary of the ANP, Zahid Khan, expressed his confidence in the direction of Nawaz and announced his decision to join the PML-N, reaffirming his commitment to play an active political role.
According to a press release published by the PML-N, Khan said that the ideology and the PML-N program under the direction of Nawaz Sharif could help solve the current problems of Pakistan and KP.
“The government of Nawaz Sharif had restored peace in the KP by eliminating terrorism and initiating development projects that have benefited the people.
“The Lowari tunnel project, which has been blocked for years, was completed under the direction of Nawaz Sharif, offering major convenience to the inhabitants of Chitral,” he added.
He also praised the performance of the chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, declaring that the people of the KP also wish the leaders of PML-N in their province.
Nawaz Sharif welcomed Zahid Khan in the PML-N, recognizing him as a experienced political worker whose inclusion would strengthen the party.
He said: “KP is the heart of Pakistan, and his people have made great sacrifices in the Pakistani movement and in the fight against terrorism.”
He said that the PML-N agenda is to ensure the prosperity of the people and to raise Pakistan among developed countries.
