New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson showed his weight loss during the team’s media day this week, after an intense packaging program during the summer.

“I really felt a change in my body,” Williamson told journalists. “I didn’t feel like this from university, high school, just where I can enter a gym and I feel good.”

He added that the executive vice-president of the team’s basketball operations, Joe Dumars, who was hired last April, would hold the responsible star.

“He will hold me responsible, and as he holds me responsible, he will also give me a lot of responsibility, which I am excited,” said Williamson about Dumar. “I know he’s going to stand at a very high level, and if I slip or anything, I know he will be there to make sure I will come back on the way.”

Williamson, who is starting his seventh season with the Pélicans, has maintained the reputation of being one of the most overweight players in the NBA since he entered the League as a global choice No. 1 in 2019. He was also one of the most injured players, missing 268 NBA games for injuries or other reasons during his career from 2019-2010 to 2024-25.

The 6 -inch 6 -inch attacker’s coach, the Director of Pélicans de la Performance, Daniel Bove, aimed to treat his fluctuating weight and his injuries consistent with the packaging program this summer.

The program included boxing sessions and exercises on football fields.

“I really felt a change in my body,” said Williamson about the Bove program. “It feels good to feel good.”

Pelicans coach Willie Green said they had been encouraged by the regularity of Williamson’s presence at the team’s headquarters during the offseason.

“I saw his work this summer, his attention on his body, his packaging,” said Green. “He wants to be available for his teammates.”
