Lahore:
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Junior, grandson of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, announced his intention to launch a new political party, committing to responding to what he called the “real needs of the people” in Pakistan, reported Express News.
Speaking at a press conference at the Lahore Press Club on Saturday, Bhutto Jr. said that the time had come to extend the political vision of his grandfather. “After Roti, Kapra Aur MakaanPeople now need electricity, gas and water, “he said.
The announcement comes only a few months after Bhutto JR confirmed in March his decision to officially enter the policy. At the time, he had expressed the intention of starting his political career through the group of the Pakistani people party (PPP) Shaheed Bhutto – a faction founded by his father in opposition to the management of the traditional PPP.
During the press conference on Saturday, Bhutto Jr made strong criticisms of President Asif Ali Zardari, accusing him of coopting the emblematic slogan “Jeay Bhutto” To advance corruption rather than maintaining the inheritance of the Bhutto family. “This slogan was supposed to serve the people, not to allow looting on their behalf,” he said.
The press event focused on the issue of farmers’ forced expulsions, in particular in Punjab, where Bhutto JR allegedly alleged that corporate agriculture initiatives were moving local communities. “Business agriculture is nothing other than a land receipt targeting the means of subsistence of poor farmers,” he said.
He questioned the silence of the parts who claimed to speak once on behalf of the farmers, including the Pakistani Muslim League, and others. “Where are these festivals now, when farmers need it most?” He asked.
Describing the farmers of Punjab as “the backbone of the Pakistani economy”, the son of the politician killed Mir Murtaza Bhutto, warned what he called the systemic dispossession of rural communities. “Eastering the land from people who feed this country is unacceptable,” he said. “Corporate agriculture is not a development – it is dispossession.”
By referring to a wider mobilization, he warned that if the Sindh farmers begin to raise their voices like their counterparts in Punjab, he would not hesitate to ask for a long step on Islamabad. Although no official calendar for the launch of the party has been announced, Bhutto JR said that consultations with basic movements and progressive groups were already underway.
