Welcome to June 2026 everyone – and what a fantastic start to the month for the best streaming services.
Indeed, with 13 stunning new movies and TV shows streaming across many of the world’s biggest streamers over the past few days, there truly will be something for everyone this weekend (June 5-7). As always, we’ve picked out seven new releases that we think are must-watches, so read on to find out what we recommend you watch at home before heading back to work on Monday. — Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter
Hoppers (Disney+)
Hoppers is the latest Pixar film to land on Disney+, and I bet you’ve already seen a lot of memes about it. Tom Lizard has been all over my Instagram feed, making a lasting impression even before its theatrical release in early March.
All the hype also turned out to be true, as it’s the kind of entertainment the whole family can enjoy. So sit back and enjoy the story of an animal-loving student who transfers her mind into a robotic beaver to communicate with the animals, inadvertently sparking an uprising among them. It’s really great. — Lucy Buglas, senior entertainment editor
Cape Fear (Apple TV)
Look on it
Javier Bardem takes on the role of villain Max Cady in Apple TV Cape Fear. I love seeing him as sinister as ever, and it’s clear he’s having the time of his life in this role. If its title sounds familiar, that’s because it’s a television retelling of the 1962 and 1991 films, based on the classic novel by John D. McDonald. The executioners.
Anyway, the 10-part Apple TV Original, which kicked off with a double-episode premiere as we focus on Tom and Anna Bowden (Patrick Wilson and Amy Adams), the husband and wife lawyers who put Cady behind bars years ago. Their idyllic life soon turns into a nightmare as Cady seeks revenge for what they did.
It’s the ultimate weekend thriller that doesn’t hold back, guaranteeing some great scares after a long week. To quote the ominous trailer: “you deserve this.” — kg
Office Romance (Netflix)
Look on it
J-Lo back in a romantic comedy? Is it 2004? No, it’s 2026 and we have a new romantic movie starring Jennifer Lopez in the form of office romance on Netflix.
As the title indicates, we are here faced with a scandalous working relationship. Lopez plays Jackie, president and CEO of Air Cruz, who runs a very strict company that included a rigid anti-fraternization policy for all of its employees.
However, this disappears with his new corporate lawyer (Brett Goldstein) when they risk their careers by pursuing a forbidden case. What makes this even better is the fact that Lopez and Goldstein now have romance rumors in reality, meaning art would completely imitate life. — Jasmine Valentine, entertainment reporter
Not Suitable for Work (Hulu/Disney+)
Look on it
After exploding the comfort of TV viewing earlier this year with Running point season 2 (sorry not sorry), Mindy Kaling is back with a brand new series Not suitable for workwhich is now available on Hulu and Disney+.
Drawing on the career experience of Generation Z and injecting a touch of comedy into natural misery, Kaling explores the early stages of employment when kids are fresh out of college. It’s fun, bawdy and somewhat unbelievable, but there’s enough of it Friends-shades of style to make it very satisfying. — Joint venture
The Legend of Vox Machina season 4 (Prime Video)
Look on it
The Legend of Vox Machinaaka Amazon’s animated retelling of popular role-playing game group Critical Role’s first Dungeons and Dragons campaign, returns to Prime Video for its fourth and penultimate season.
Taking place a year after last season’s finale, which saw the eponymous ragtag team of warriors, mages, elves and bards go their separate ways, season 4 sees them come together when a new otherworldly evil awakens and threatens their world.
Episodes one through three are available now, with three more bundles – comprising three episodes each – rolling out every Wednesday until the end of June. Enjoy it while you can too, because the fifth season of the R-rated show, currently in development, will be its last. — TP
Passenger (HBO Max)
Look on it
This should be common sense, but before we wax lyrical about how Back seat that is, please don’t watch it with your family this weekend on HBO Max.
Colin (Harry Melling) is a bland, mousy young man who attracts the attention of biker Ray (Alexander Skarsgård), and the two begin to explore a dominant-submissive relationship. Without a clear definition, their relationship is difficult and beyond unconventional, with Colin’s character growing before our eyes. It’s strangely romantic with a strong sense of nostalgia, even if not all that’s actually visible is visible at all.
There’s more sex, nudity, and awkward conversations than one person can handle, but Back seat is also one of the most profound films I’ve seen in years. Extra thanks goes to first-time director Harry Lighton, who includes an unexpected mention of my hometown, Great Dunmow. — Joint venture
Michael Jackson: The Verdict (Netflix)
Look on it
Michael Jackson: the verdict revisits the high-profile case of the controversial and deceased eponymous music superstar, giving viewers a deeper look at what happened through jurors, eyewitnesses, accusers and defenders.
Through three episodes, the documentary series presents testimonies from people closest to the case. Tudum describes it as “a comprehensive historical record of a trial that the public never really had the chance to see”, with contributors including family lawyer Brian Oxman and journalist Martin Bashir.
Expect archival footage, trial notes and media coverage, much of which still sparks debate today. -KG
