PM Shehbaz, the Marshal of the Murnir, would visit the KP with floods, ensures total support for the victims

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Marshal Asim Munnir visited the districts affected by Swat, Buner, Shangla and Swabi’s floods on Wednesday, committing to all the national resources available are mobilized to accelerate recovery and restore normality.

According to the Prime Minister’s office, Prime Minister and Marshal received a complete briefing on rescue and rescue operations in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Federal ministers and senior officials also joined the visit.

During their interaction with the survivors, Shehbaz assured the victims of the unwavering support of the federal government and the Pakistani army. “We are going to extend maximum aid in this critical hour,” he said, while enjoying the “tireless dedication” of the armed forces and the civil administration.

First has also drawn attention to illegal encroachments, smuggling of wood and mining to worsen the disaster. He stressed that Pakistan “should act as a hard state where no one is above the law” and directed measures against offenders.

The PM said that more than 350 people had been killed only in KP, while the victims nationwide exceeded 700. The Prime Minister disbursed emergency checks among the victims and announced seven days of free electricity for affected households. He also ordered the immediate repair of damaged road infrastructure, whether it was noted under the provincial or federal jurisdiction.

“Hotels and houses built on the sailors increase the impact of floods,” warned Shehbaz, calling for more strict policies to prevent illegal construction and protect natural water canals. It also urged forest preservation, noting that deforestation was a factor behind the explosions of destructive clouds.

Recalling the floods of 2022, Shehbaz said that hundreds of thousands of acres of cultures were destroyed and that the houses were swept away in the Sindh, which prompted Rs100 billion with federal aid. “Today, with the support of all stakeholders, the government is fully determined to take up this new challenge,” he said.

The Prime Minister stressed that there should not be a policy in times of crisis. He congratulated the chief minister of KP, Ali Amin, the armed forces and the civil administration for their help efforts. He also welcomed the support of Marshal Munnir, “under the cooperation of which the government strives to stabilize the economy”.

Pakistan ranks among the 10 most vulnerable countries in the world, noted Shehbaz, adding that climate change, deforestation and uncontrolled development have amplified the extent of natural disasters.

Marshal Asim Munnir also interacted with the troops, the police and civilian staff have embarked on help efforts, congratulating their “altruistic commitment” and ordering training to “spare no effort to mitigate the difficulties of families struck by floods”.

The number of deaths of KP floods lead 400

The torrential rains in northern Pakistan have sparked floods and landslides that swept entire villages, leaving many residents trapped under rubble and missing scores.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that 356 people had been killed in KP since Thursday evening, while deaths across the country had passed the 700 later.

Dozens of others died in the surrounding regions, passing the toll over the past five days to almost 400. The authorities have warned that the monsoon showers would continue to the weekend.

The rescuers dug mud and stone in the hard village of Dalori in Kp, in search of survivors and the bodies of those who are missing.

The villagers stood next to themselves, looking and praying, while the rescuers worked one day after the operation was stopped by heavy rain.
