The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) published a travel notice on Wednesday urging citizens and tourists to avoid visiting parts of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) due to dangerous weather conditions, current floods and increased risk of landslides and road closings, said the Associated Press of Pakistan.
The opinion, published by the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), warned that several roads in the northern region have been seriously damaged by persistent precipitation and a glacial activity. He highlighted GB as particularly vulnerable, advising travelers to exercise extreme caution and to avoid unnecessary movements in affected areas.
According to the NDMA, the Shyok river bridge near Saltoro was blocked by landslides, cutting access along the route. The Astak bridge on the Jaglot – Skardu road was also partially damaged, restricting traffic towards a one -way movement.

Several key routes remain inaccessible due to landslides and sudden floods. These include the Diamer-Ghizer road, Shandur Road, Khalti Road, Dain Road and Ishkoman Road. In Skardu, the roads leading to Kargil, Kharmang and Shigar via Thangol Nala are completely blocked. The Gilgit – Naltar route was also assigned, which stopped the traffic entry.
Despite the widespread disruptions, the restoration efforts have reopened several routes. The Surmo bridge in Ghanche and Bagicha Road in Skardu is now operational. Traffic also resumed on the Gulmit -Gojal road in Hunza, the Jaglot – Gilgit route via Guro and Chilam Road in Astore after customs clearance work.
The NDMA continues to monitor the situation and advised the public to stay up to date through official channels before traveling to the region.
