Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the districts affected by Swat, Buner, Shangla and Swabi’s floods on Wednesday, where he stressed that all the national available resources will be mobilized to accelerate recovery efforts and restore normality in affected areas.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by federal ministers and Marshal Syed Asim Munnir, said a press release published by the PM office.
The Prime Minister and the Coas received a complete briefing on the current rescue and rescue operations in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
During their interaction with the victims of the floods, the Prime Minister assured them of the unwavering commitment of the federal government and the Pakistani army to extend maximum support in this critical hour.
The Prime Minister, while appreciating the tireless dedication of the armed forces and the civil administration, reaffirmed solidarity with the population affected by the floods and assured them any possible assistance.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also drawn attention to illegal encroachments, wooden mafia and mining / crushing activities, especially in navigable channels which considerably contribute to loss of life and damage. He ordered that Pakistan should act as a hard state where no one is superior to the law and that the necessary measures be taken against the failing.
The COAS also interacted with troops, police and civil administration staff involved in rescue efforts, welcoming their altruistic commitment to help victims of floods and torrential rains. Coas ordered the ground training to approach this responsibility with the greatest devotion and to no longer effer to alleviate the difficulties of families struck by floods.
He pointed out that the security and relief of colleagues citizens remain the greatest priority, congratulating the forces and the civil administration for their tireless service.
Earlier, the Prime Minister and the participants also proposed Fateha to those who lost their lives in this catostrophe.
Later, the Prime Minister spent backing checks among the victims of the recent rains and torrential floods.
Addressing the participants, the Prime Minister expressed deep sadness about the destruction caused by recent cloud explosions and heavy rains in various parts of the country, and said that these natural calamities had led to the loss of many lives and properties.
The Prime Minister said that cloud incidents have occurred in Swat, Buner, Shangla and Swabi.
In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), around 350 people have been martyred and hundreds of other injuries, he said, adding that over 700 people have lost their lives due to rains and floods across the country.
Recalling the floods of 2022, he noted that hundreds of thousands of acres of cultures have been destroyed and countless houses were swept away in the Sindh. At that time, the federal government announced 100 billion rupees for help to support the victims and rebuild the affected areas.
He stressed that today, with the support of all stakeholders, the government was fully determined to face this new challenge. He said he had issued clear instructions that roads and infrastructure should be repaired, that they are part of the provincial or federal jurisdiction.
The Prime Minister said that federal ministers were currently engaged in rescue activities in KP. In addition, the Prime Minister announced seven days of free electricity for those affected and oriented immediate repairs to damaged road infrastructure.
Stressing the deep causes of such destruction, the Prime Minister stressed that hotels and houses were often built on natural sailors, which has aggravated the impact of floods.
He underlined the urgent need to discourage such a construction and called for the development of policies and laws to prevent construction on illegal land, in particular along the water canals, in order to avoid future disasters.
He said that even if the government was already engaged in the fight against terrorists and Khawarij in KP, this natural disaster had added another layer of challenge. However, he stressed that all stakeholders, including the government, the armed forces and civil society, worked together to help for help and recovery efforts.
He reiterated that Pakistan is a house with four units and that there should not be a policy in times of such a national crisis.
He appreciated the efforts of chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin, and the armed forces who worked with diligence to help with rescue operations. He also recognized the support of Marshal Asim Munnir, under the cooperation of which the government was trying to stabilize the country’s economy.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan was among the 10 countries most affected by the impacts of climate change.
He stressed that deforestation also contributes to cloud explosions and stressed the importance of preserving forests to mitigate the impact of future natural disasters.
