The new miniot Wheel 3 is exactly what I expected in 2025 musical equipment when I grew up in the late 1970s and in the early 1980s: I knew that in 2025, my immense, airy and affordable on the moon would be filled with friendly robots, holographic and vertical vinyl televisions. It is therefore pleasant to be proven on one of these things, at least.
As its name suggests, the Miniot Wheel 3 is the third generation of the Verical Vinyl player from Miniot. And there is intelligent technology to match the retro-futuristic design.
A platinum that looks good
It is not the only vertical platinum around: we have seen various models since the 1980s, and among the current harvest, you will find a projection with its vertical hub VTE and the audio fuse last year, which looked impressive.
But this is a much more premium model, with a price to correspond: it is listed at € 2,900 / $ 3,443 £ 2,550 / $ 5 3,51 in.
Miniot says the stylus is optical. It is not a laser – it is a diamond stylus – but instead of using magnets or coils to convert vibrations that the bed stylus into an audio signal, it uses an optical sensor.
The stylus is associated with a direct drive engine controlled by an optical sensor and an integrated preamplifier. There is a reading hidden under the disc which moves vertically from bottom to center, and wheel 3 can be placed flat, hung on a wall or stood on its support.
Although the pre -orders started in May, I could not find criticism of wheel 3 – but there are criticisms of the previous model on Techmoan Youtube, which was not particularly enthusiastic or overwhelming: it was a bit of impressive and no longer traditional and affordable design.
But then, you do not buy a downside like this for its sound. You buy it to blend into the rest of your apartment on the moon.
