- Control of the brightness of flashlights arrives on pixel phones
- It was spotted in the latest version of Android overview
- Previously, you needed a third party application to access the functionality
The pocket lamp is a useful supplement that you will get on all the best smartphones, and it is even more useful when you can adjust its strength – a feature that seems to finally be set to arrive on Pixel phones with a next Android update.
As spotted by Android Authority, the latest version of Android Canary – The first Android test version – includes the option to adjust the brightness of the flashlight from the quick setting panel, via a simple slider on the screen.
This is something that you can already do on the best iPhones and the best Samsung phones, so we are happy to see that the pixels finally catch up – there are a lot of scenarios where you can adjust the forces of pocket lamp can be useful.
The functionality has actually existed since 2022 and Android 13, but it has not been fully implemented in the Pixel handsets before. Until now, you needed an application of a third party flashlight to change the intensity.
Future
It is not certain how long it will take to move to Pixel handsets, but it should not take time. It could well be deployed with the Android 16 QPR2 update (that is to say a quarterly version of the platform, by the way), which should arrive for everyone in September.
Other new features that pixel users can impatiently wait in Android 16 QPR2 include support for an improved dark mode and better icon theme, more personalization for the fast parameter panel and locking screen widgets for phones.
The identity verification function will also be extended to more applications, which means that they require biometric authentication (such as a facial or fingerprint analysis) for access. There is also a remote locking function implemented called secure locking device.
All these features will of course appear on newly unveiled Google Pixel 10 phones, which are delivered with an earlier version of Android 16 out of the box – but you may find the luminosity adjustment of the flashlight that you find the most.
