Islamabad:
PTI leaders welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision on Thursday to give the surety to the former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the eight cases of May 9, which describes it as an important stage in the PTI struggle for justice. They promised to continue their political and legal struggle in the constitutional framework.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Salman Akram Raja said that the judgment had proven that the persistence is paying and that it was a step towards judicial independence.
“This is an important step, but we will continue our struggle. The public has now realized that the case of May 9 was based on a false story,” he said.
He added that the party was united behind its leaders and that all parliamentary decisions, including the appointment of opposition leaders, would be taken as indicated by the founder of the PTI.
Latif Khosa described the decision as “a breath of fresh air after a long period”.
He declared that article 25 of the Constitution clearly guaranteed equality before the law, and that the Supreme Court had rightly confirmed constitutional supremacy. He argued that one case could be prosecuted on the base of May 9, because the same testimonies could not be used several times.
Khosa said that in the Al-Qadir Trust case, the founder of PTI had not taken any personal advantage.
He also swore that the PTI would continue his struggle to release political prisoners, recalling that “we even ousted the general military dictator Pervez Musharraf from power”.
Expressing sorrow on recent events in Karachi and promising total support for the communities struck by the floods at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), he said that the party had remained attached to the public service.
Amir Dogar thanked the Supreme Court for having made a verdict “based on facts”, calling this a message to the forces which had “concocted a false story of May 9”. He said that the decision marked “a day of victory for the PTI” and the burial of the manufactured stories.
Salman Akram Raja reiterated that PTI would dispute any unfavorable decision before the higher courts.
“Those who stole the elections should seek forgiveness, not we-we only ask for forgiveness from God,” he said. He said the party has remained on the guarantee of legal relief for its leaders, adding that “our companions like Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz and Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar will return”.
