- Peacemaker Season 2 makes a big change in the final of its predecessor
- Fans have long wondered how it would manage a key scene of season 1 episode 8
- All the rest of last season is considered canon in the DCU
Since Peacemaker Season 2 was announced for the first time, a big question tormented fans of the successful show HBO Max: what aspects of the history of its ancestor will be treated as canon in the nascent DC universe (DCU)?
This is a question that James Gunn, co-PDG of DC Studios, and PeacemakerThe chief writer and occasional director did not respond as clearly as many fans hoped for it. Now, however, the first of this season has been – and that has resolved a great mystery on the way Gunn would also manage a scene filled with Comée from last season’s final.
Complete spoilers immediately follow for Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 1Entitled “Lies that grind”. Now go back if you haven’t seen it yet.
The short answer is: all season 1 is canon in the DCU. Well, anything but this scene fierce by Camée, which I will arrive later.
“The Ties that grind” opens with the eponymous anti -hero of John Cena – the real name Chris Smith – answering questions from a class full of children. It is a fun and unexpected way to open this season of the Chapter One DCU project, especially when you consider the dichotomy between the character holder of the abuse of substance and its innocent investigators.
Anyway, when Smith is asked if he has an original story, we are entitled to an assembly “ previously on … ‘of one of the best seasons of HBO Max Shows’. This includes clips from his traumatic childhood, joining “Project Butterfly”, killing his xenophobic and toxic father, and saving the world from an extraterrestrial invasion. Cena even provides a voiceover by saying “previously on the DCU”, which essentially confirms season 1 took place in the DCU instead of its now disappeared ancestor, alias the extended universe DC (DCEU).
This is the end of this collage based on images that addresses the multi-comic scene to which I alluded. However, the justice League of DCEU appeared after Smith and the children of the 11th street defeated the extraterrestrial butterflies to prevent them from taking up the planet earth.
While the children of 11th Street have triumphantly moved away from a job well done in the final of last season, they were welcomed by justice League. Admittedly, the Aquaman of Jason Momoa and The Flash by Ezra Miller are the only actors who really appear on the screen, but the silhouettes of their colleagues heroes – Superman by Henry Cavill, Batman by Ben Affleck, the wonderful woman of Gal Gadot and the Cyborg of Ray Fisher – are shown.
Pacifier 2 Let’s take away this camée from the Justice League. Indeed, the segment “ previously on … ” reveals that the Sextaplet was replaced by the gang of justice-that is to say the gentleman of Edi Gathegi (who appears only in the form of a silhouette), Hawkgirl of Isabela Merced, and Guy Gardner / Green Lantern of Nathan Fillion. The trio is also joined by the contours of Superman of David Corenswet and the Supergirl of Milly Alcock, even if the Kryptonian pair is not part of the gang of justice.
But I’m getting lost. Fruit their late appearance, Smith greets them in the same way he did justice League last season, saying “you are late, you are ***** GD ******** s!”. Then, in a very brief scene designed to replace Aquaman and the short and semi-amusing exchange of Flash of season 1, Hawkgirl and Gardner have an equally ephemeral conversation.
So, problem solved, right? As long as you do not go back and do not look at season 1 of episode 8, alias “It’s cow or never”. Speaking in the context of a round table interview which assisted by Techradar, Gunn admitted that the scene of the gangs of justice resumed the first of this season won’t Replace justice League One in the final of season 1.
“I would like to be able to do it,” replied Gunn when he was asked if he exchanged the scene of Justice League for the Gang of Justice Mistred. “But, I cannot, because it is too expensive. I think we prefer to spend money on a few other visual effects plans for Supergirl.
