Islamabad / Lahore:
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) ordered an immediate evacuation of the communities on Thursday along the Sutlej river after a strong increase in the discharge upstream of water and additional intensification forecasts in the coming days.
The officials said that the water flow at Harike Dam had jumped at 111,461 CUSECs at 10 p.m., which triggers a heavy downstream movement. The discharge in Ganda Singh Wala should reach between 100,000 and 110,000 brackets, while chief Suleimanki should receive around 80,000 cuses.
The National Operation Center (NEOC) of the NDMA warned that the eighth fate of the monsoon – bringing strong precipitation in the higher watersheds of the river – could push the flow to Ganda Singh Wala to 120,000 Cuses from August 23.
Earlier, the provincial Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed a continuous increase in Sutlej water levels in Ganda Singh Wala, where, he said, the river was already in medium level flood at 95,000 Cuses.
A flow of 80,000 cops in the Sutlej river corresponds to a low -level flood, 120,000 brackets with a medium level flood and 175,000 Cusecases with a high -level flood. The NEOC said that the precipitation supported and the versions of the tanks should worsen the flood situation.
The NDMA has placed all the relevant emergency departments and services on high alert, urging residents in the areas subject to floods to comply with evacuation orders, to safeguard livestock and agricultural assets and to avoid movements near the channels, draws and flooded areas.
The NDMA said it coordinated with provincial and district administrations for a timely response and uninterrupted surveillance. PDMA 298 vehicles had been deployed, as well as 13 boats, 16 rescue loops, 210 life jackets and other rescue equipment to facilitate evacuations.
