- 4-Ohm The impedance makes them easy to play from any stereo amplifier
The Danish company Hi-Fi Dali has just announced a new pair of stereo budget speakers, and as a person who has tested the model just above them in the range at home recently, I think that could be very interesting.
The new speakers are called Dali Kupid, and they hope to make you fall in love with their funky color options (as well as more traditional wooden finishes), and their promise of its detailed and plunging audiophile for a low price of only £ 299. (About $ 400 / $ 625 at – No price was confirmed for the United States or Australia at the time of writing).
They sit between the Dali Spektor 1 speakers 1 the cheapest ($ 280 /199 / at $ 499) and the impressive Dali Oberon 1 speakers ($ 600 / £ 399 £ / $ 749 at)-both obtained five stars from our friends at What Hi-Fi? in their journals of these products.
I used the Dali Oberon 1 at home recently as part of the test of a new streaming amplifier, and they are really very amazing for the price with regard to details and musicality – which means that I think they could really be a fantastic value.
Kupids are built with a custom 26 mm tweeter with an average of 4.5 inch. While the woofer seems to be very similar to one in the Spektor 1, the combination with a new tweeter and a different bass reflex design could produce a wider sound than the Spektor 1.
Although this has said, I must note that the Kupid is assessed for slightly less extensive bass frequencies than the Spektor 1 (63Hz for the Kupid and 59Hz for the Spektor) – but the specification numbers never tell the whole story with the speakers, so I expected a more complete sound of Kupid when taking into account all the elements of the design.
One of the major orientations of Kupid seems to make them easy to live – Dali suggests that they should be easy to place and get a good sound, and they come with wall supports in the box as well as rubber feet.
They are also reasonably small, and they can be supplied comfortably from 4 ohms amplification, so budget amps should have no problem getting their best sound. Dali says that they should seem very silent and noisy, so they are adapted to many different environments – it is something that Oberon 1 is great, so I do not doubt it here.
And perhaps the coolest of all, they are available in five large finishes with different tastes: black ash, nuts, caramel white, golden yellow and cold blue.
An excellent way to move on to the speakers in the library?
It seems that they would be well combined with something like the pro-Projet stereo box e amp, which costs $ 349 /199 £ and should have enough power for these speakers, in addition, Bluetooth has been integrated.
If you compare yourself to a configuration of similar wireless stereo speakers-something like a pair of Sonos Era 100 speakers only costs a little less-you will almost certainly hear a major difference in detail and clarity of the Hi-Fi system.
With much larger speakers, more air move and more space for powerful components, you will find that music has much more space to express themselves than in a smaller system. This generally means that you will get the experience of hearing elements of “new” songs, or being able to simply appreciate them with an improved sound profile.
In fact, I did a comparison listening test recently between a pair of Sonos Era 300 stereo speakers and the speakers Dali Oberon 1 with the new Ultra Wiim amplifier-and although the sound speakers have given a large account of themselves with the sound dispersion and the low-range, the Oberon 1 had a clear advantage when it came to the expression, The things that make you feel really immersed in a song are boosted.
Obviously, we will have to do these real tests to see if they can do the same at a lower price, but given my recent experience with the Dali speakers and the history of the company, I think it seems to be a good threat to our list of the best stereo speakers.
