FIA turns to artificial intelligence

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has developed an application supplied by artificial intelligence (AI) to rationalize immigration procedures and slow down human smuggling. A pilot project must be launched at Islamabad international airport.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was informed of the initiative at a meeting at the FIA headquarters in Islamabad, where the progress of the agency’s modernization program was examined.

FIA director general, Raja Riffat Mukhtar, said that the AI -focused system would facilitate passenger flow by reducing queues while improving the agency’s ability to detect traffic attempts.

Calling the project “A need for the hour”, Naqvi said that he would not only save time for travelers but would also strengthen Pakistan’s struggle against human smugglers. He announced the immediate release of funds for IT improvements and asked for an urgent renovation of the FIA headquarters.

The Minister of the Interior asked the capital Development Authority (CDA) to give land to the FIA academy without delay. Recruitment against all approved vacancies will also be launched to respond to staff shortages.

“I will take care of the supply of all the necessary resources, but in return, you will have to offer performance,” the Minister told FIA officials.

The head of the FIA also informed the Minister that the amendments to the FIA law had been completed, while the agency’s digital transition progressed in priority. The organization has already moved to an e-office system with all the official opinions which will soon be issued with QR codes to ensure transparency.

In recent years, the FIA has intensified its repression against human trafficking networks.

In October 2023, he also associated himself with the European Union and the International Center for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) to establish a border control office of the “second line” at Islamabad airport, equipped with advanced tools and computer tools to detect forged documents and monitor the trends in smuggling.

The launch of the AIP -based application marks another important step in Pakistan’s efforts to modernize border management and strengthen institutional capacity against organized traffic networks.
