LONDON:
Actor Helen Mirren, one of the stars of Thursday Thursday ThursdayA film about a group of retirees who like to crack unresolved murder cases, said it was great to see the life experiences of the elderly celebrated on the screen on Thursday.
Mirren, eighty, plays the old Elizabeth Best in the new mystery of Netflix, who, with his other impressive retired friends – played by Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie – find themselves with a real murder to be resolved.
“We underestimate the elderly. I did it at the age of 25,” said Mirren during the film’s first in London. “It is absolutely true that young people have the impression that the world is theirs and that no one has ever done what they do before, you know, but reality is, of course, every generation has done everything they do.”
Directed by Chris Columbus, the film is based on the best -selling novel by Richard Osman in 2020 of the same name. “I do not plot at all,” said Osman about his writing process. “I have literally an approximate idea of what could happen. I have a small twist somewhere, but I literally write a chapter at a time and I see what’s going on,” he said.
Describing the film, one of the writers, Katy Brand, said that he was mixing “serious and sincere warmth” and moments of stupidity, humor and satire.
“All this kind of gender we have in this country of the kind of Sunday evening criminal drama … where the amateur diversion continues, but there is also a mischief,” said Osman.
As for the future, with three other novels in the series already released and a fifth episode of Osman scheduled for the fall, he hopes that there will be more films. “Admittedly, if it does well,” he said. “I think that the cast spent an incredible time last summer filmed this. So I think they would like to spend another filming another. Also. The crossed fingers.” Said Osman.
Netflix nflx.o will start to broadcast Thursday Thursday Thursday August 28.
