PBC rejects the hike in court costs

Islamabad:

Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) rejected the recent increase in legal fees on Saturday, describing it as an attack on the fundamental right of the poor to access justice.

The decision was made at a meeting of the PBC executive committee chaired by Muhammad Yasin Azad. The Council expressed a deep concern concerning the changes in the rules of the Supreme Court 2025, strongly opposing the increase in legal costs and demanding its immediate withdrawal.

According to a statement, the PBC said that the government had not gained confidence in the council before introducing the increase in costs. He announced that an all -game conference (APC) would be summoned to Islamabad on September 27, bringing together representatives of political parties and bars associations to discuss the issue.

The PBC also condemned a raid by the CTD to the residence of the former judge (RETD) Zahoor Ahmed Shahwani, describing it as a violation of the Constitution, the law and civil freedoms because it was led without a search warrant.

The Council also denounced the murder of lawyer Mian Asim Kakakhel.
