Recent episodes of Main Manto Nahi Hoon Fans the fans shrugging their eyebrows on the apparently problematic construction of the series between the main characters. Public opinion argues that Manto (Humayun Saeed) and Mehmal (Sajal Ali) should not be romantically involved with each other.
The show follows the story of Mehmal, a daughter of a violent and patriarchal family who fights to obtain higher education against the wishes of his father. At the University, she meets the calm professor of the writer-economy, Manto who shares his name with the legendary writer.
Although it is not explicitly shown, the show alludes to a romance between Mehmal and Manto. In a scene, the aunt of Mehmal teases her to have the crush on her teacher, emphasizing how much she talks about him, alluding to a romantic attraction. In another scene, Manto grabs Mehmal’s hand and tries to save her from his cousin Farhaad (Azaan Sami Khan) who pursues her forcefully. Later, he was beaten by the Farhaad guards for her.
Fans are disappointed with the choice of script from Sajal and Humayun which is that of normalizing such a dynamic. An Instagram user wrote: “I do not understand how A-Listers agree to make bullshit like this, aren’t people to read the scripts?”
Another Stan Sajal commented on his Instagram: “I expected a better script from you.” 
Despite the filmography at a low budget of the show and the good acting, fans could not look beyond writing: “Even if Manto is a great character, I cannot shake the strange feeling of a student and a teacher with a romantic relationship (more 20+ age gap)” read a YouTube comment. “I really hope that Mehmal and her fiancé (or Farhaad) will come together.”
Some have underlined the respect that demanding that a student-teacher relationship. “The heroines who have not studied at university do not know the respect that teachers have,” read a YouTube comment. “Students also have their own dignity, teachers are your spiritual parents. Such a bad Sajal script worked. ” 
Another was simply amazed by the evil of this dynamic. “No family will send their daughter to male teachers in this way,” read the Instagram comment. “And if they do, then teachers and students will start to be mutually from this lens, ashamed of this drama. You should all point out this type of script because they will destroy pure relationships and make people in mind.” 
The show is written by Khalil-Ur-Rehman Qamar and directed by Nadeem Baig. It is distributed by Six Sigma Plus and the entertainment of the following level and broadcast on Ary Digital. The drama presents a star cast with Humayun and Sajal taking the lead and Sanam Saeed, Asif Raza Mir, Saba Hamid, Saba Faisal, Saima Noor and Azaan Sami Khan in the roles of support.
Main Manto Nahi Hoon has been in trouble since July 18 and released its 12th episode this weekend.
