An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Faisalabad sentenced on Monday Monday, senior leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI), Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz and 57 other people each at 10 years in prison in the May 9 case on an attack on the residence of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawawaz (PML-N) Ranalalah’s Residence.
Of the 59 people sentenced in the case, 17 were PTI leaders. Sixteen other accused were also sentenced and sentenced to three years in prison each. The latter group included MPa Sheikh Shahid Javed from PP-115.
Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry and the legislator Pti Zain Qureshi have been acquitted.
The case was part of a series of trials relating to violent disorders which broke out during the demonstrations against the arrest of the founder of the PTI, Imran Khan, premises of the High Court of Islamabad on May 9, 2023.

The head of the opposition of the National Assembly Omar Ayub, head of the opposition in the Senate Shibli Faraz, Zartaj Gul, Mna Sahibzada Hamid Raza and the former Mna Sheikh Rashid Shafiq were among the 108 PTI managers sentenced on the 185 involved in the cases while 77 others were acquitted.

About 60 of the convicted people, including Faraz, Ayub, Gul and Raza, were sentenced to 10 years in prison each while the other convicted people were each been awarded to three -year prison.
Meanwhile, Fawad Chaudhry was acquitted with Zain Qureshi, Khayal Kastro, Faizullah Kamoka, Rana Asad Mehmood Khan, Bilal Ashraf Basra, Haroon Rasheed, Amara Rasheed, Sahibzada Hassan Raza and Kamran Warraich.
Shafiq was absent from the court at the hearing and did not appear. He would have gone to hide to avoid arrest.
Earlier, the Supreme Court granted a deposit to the former Prime Minister Imran Khan on the principle of coherence in eight cases linked to the riots of May 9, canceling a previous decision of the High Court of Lahore which had refused a deposit.

“The case of the petitioner must be taken into account positively taking into account the principle of consistency, as others have been granted by this court,” said the four -page order written by the chief judge of Pakistan Yahya Afridi.
The bench of three members, led by the Afridian chief judge, granted Khan’s requests against the decision of June 24 of the High Court of Lahore. The cases came from several FIRs recorded in Lahore after violent demonstrations which followed the arrest of Khan.
