Imran Khan’s sister Aleema was exempt from appearing in court to face accusations of protest for her brother’s release last year. Rawalpindi’s anti-terrorism court will then hear the case a week later, on September 2.
Sadiqabad police had recorded a case against her after the violent demonstrations on November 26 in Islamabad. On Monday, the judge of the Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court, Amjad Ali Shah, granted his lawyer for the lawyer Muhammad Faisal Malik exemption.
Aleema Khan is on deposit. However, his sons were arrested in Lahore last week. On August 22, the police arrested Shershah Khan, a day after his brother Shahrez Khan was placed in police custody in connection with the riots of May 9, 2023. The family said that the in civilian men intercepted a car led by the husband of Aleema and taken Shershah by force.

Aleema Khan condemned the arrests, saying that they were aimed at silencing his family and PTI. Party officials also denounced detention, calling them illegal and politically motivated.
In Lahore, another ATC returned Shahrez Khan to police custody for eight days. He was arrested at the end of August 21 of the Aleema residence, the PTI alleging that household staff had been attacked and that family members are harassed.
The police later linked him to the attack on the Jinnah house through additional declarations filed in September 2023.
Defense lawyer Salman Akram Raja opposed the police to keep Shahrez in detention for another interrogation, saying that arresting him 27 months after the incident was “ridiculous”.
He argued that Shahrez was not involved in political bustle and had been in chitral during the riots. He added that Aleema Khan had already been released in the same case.

Police admitted that Shahrez was not sought in other cases of May 9, although the prosecutors maintained his name appeared in several files.
Defense lawyers argued that it was targeted because of its family ties to Imran Khan and the PTI accused the government of persecuting the parents and supporters of Imran.
