Peshawar:
The recent rains and the evolution of weather conditions have sounded alarm ringtone for the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Health Department, as the number of dengue cases active in the province has increased to 90.
According to official figures, a total of 398 people have been infected so far by dengue, while 308 have recovered. In the past 24 hours only, 82 new cases have been confirmed.
The highest number of active cases has been reported by Charsadda, where 73 patients are currently under treatment. Other districts reporting cases include Nowshera and Manshra (three each), Swabi (three), Lakki Marwat (two), Abbottabad (two), Haripur (UN), Mardan (UN), Peshawar (one) and the tank (one).
Health managers have warned that the stagnant water left by recent rains could provide a reproduction ground to dengue mosquitoes. All district health officers have been invited to intensify surveillance and preventive measures in their respective fields.
Special assistant of the Minister of Health, Ehtesham Ali, said that the province did not face a dengue emergency. He urged the public not to pay rumors, to adopt precautionary measures in houses and workplaces and to request immediate medical aid in the event of fever.
