Peshawar:
In a serious violation of official driving and cultural standards, an FIA official parked at Torkham Border Immigration Center was suspended after a video has become viral on social networks, which shows him female travelers without their consent.
The incident, which goes against traditional pachtounes values, would have taken place during immigration procedures where women, without sails, were registered without authorization. The video quickly became viral on social networks, attracting public indignation and triggering immediate measures of the Federal Investigation Agency.
According to a spokesperson for the FIA, the suspended official, identified as Ehtesham-Ul-Haq, was published on the Torkham immigration control post. It was seen in the viral images that film travelers during service hours. Taking notice of the case, the director general of the FIA suspended the officer with immediate effect and ordered a departmental investigation. A detailed report of the incident was also wanted with the director of the FIA Peshawar zone.
“The FIA remains determined to provide an respectful and worthy immigration experience to all travelers,” said the spokesperson. “Any abusive use of the authority or violation of the official obligation will in no case be tolerated,” he added.
The agency stressed that it worked in an emergency to modernize immigration services and ensure strict membership in professional standards. “All civil servants should deal with citizens in a courteous, legitimate and disciplined manner. Violations of the rules will lead to strict disciplinary measures without discrimination,” added the spokesman.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for training and responsibility of the staff deployed at sensitive border points, in particular in culturally sensitive regions.
