Spoilers for Unknown number – Lycée’s catfish in front.
Our story begins at the end of 2021 in Beal City, Michigan, where Lauryn Licari and her boyfriend Owen are beginning to receive aggressive text messages from an unknown source. The documentary shows us that it started with messages like “Hi Lauryn, Owen breaks with you”, leading to more divisor messages, in particular “he wants sex, bjs n realizes, he does not want your Sry a **”.
Owen alone received up to 30 to 50 messages per day. For Lauryn, they have become more sexually explicit, even leading her to believe that she would be “better if you were dead”. Local authorities got involved in January 2022 and called the FBI for reinforcements a few months later in April.
And who was behind these messages, could you ask? Lauryn’s mother, Kendra. She pretended to be another classmate who was in love with Owen, using an application called Verizon to hide the figures she used to send SMS. The Liaison of the FBI Bradley Peter noted that Kendra’s number had appeared several times while examining the case, leading to his arrest and to the devices seized in December 2022.
You could now know the basic details, but I cannot emphasize how shocking it is to watch play in a chronological sequence. Viewers will see Kendra bodywork images of bodywork to be arrested, alongside her trying to discuss: “In a realistic way, many of us have probably violated the law at one time or another and not get caught. I am sure that people have led drunk, were not caught.”
Why Kendra did what she did is open to interpretation, but some solutions are suggested throughout Unknown number – Lycée’s catfish. As Beal City’s former superintendent says, Bill Chillman: “She wanted her daughter to need her in such a way that she was ready to hurt her, and that is how she chose to do it in relation to trying it physically to make it sick, which is a typical behavior of Munchausen.”
Do not hold out of breath and frenzy immediately … I promise that this new movement is the one you will never forget.
