Sydney: an alleged “large shark” mutilated a surfer to death in a rare deadly attack on a Sydney beach on Saturday, Australian police and rescuers said, leading to a series of beaches.

The man was withdrawn from the Pacific surfing on shore at the Long Reef beach in Northern Sydney but died on the scene, New South Wales said in a statement.

“A man died on the beaches of the North after being bitten by what would have been a great shark,” said the police.

Two sections of a surf board were recovered and taken for examination, said the police, adding that they were working with experts to identify the shark species involved.

Images of the scene on local media have shown that the police have gathered on the shore and the ambulances parked nearby.

The victim was bitten by the predator of the ocean as he surfaces in the morning far from a patrolled area of ​​the beach, according to Surf Life Saving NSW.

The beaches between the northern suburbs of Manly and Narrabeen have been closed for at least 24 hours, he said.

“For the moment, please stay away from nearby beaches water and follow the direction of rescuers,” said Steven Pearce, CEO of Surf Life Saving NSW.

“Our greatest condolences go to the family of man involved in this terrible tragedy.”

The nearby surf rescue clubs have canceled all water activities and training for the weekend.

The previous mortal attack in the city took place in 1963.

The drones now scored the beach for shark activity, according to the Australian public broadcaster ABC.

Police said emergency services rushed to the scene following alerts that the man, who had not been identified, had suffered “critical injuries”.

An anonymous surfer said that the victim had surfed the long adjacent reef and why the beaches.

“Four or five surfers took him out of the water and it seemed that a large part of his lower half had been attacked,” said the surfer, according to the Daily Telegraph in Sydney.
