The New York giants were again disappointing in the opening of a new NFL season, begging for the question of fans: how long lasts the Russell Wilson leash in the quarter-Arrière?
It is long enough for another week, at least, as head coach Brian Daboll said on Monday after the defeat of 21-6 against the Washington commanders on the road that Wilson will train this week as a team starter before their match against the Dallas Cowboys.
“Russ will be the starter,” he said when asked by journalists from the team’s facilities to East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Daboll was questioned immediately after the match if Wilson is still his guy who is advancing, and he left him open to the interpretation after being final. The giants exchanged in the first round to grasp Jaxson Dart, their quarter-Arrière full of hope for the future. After a strong pre-season, Dart awaits its first regular season opportunity.
“It is an emotional game. It is a difficult game. Did not play particularly well, I would say collectively. But in terms of making these decisions – really in any position or schematic changes – I would like to do it with a clear head and watch the band,” said Daboll. “Again, as I said yesterday, this game does not come across Russell Wilson. We have to do a better job collectively – coaching, play – but Russ will be the starter.”

Wilson Giant’s debut in the regular season did not go as planned. He had only 17 out of 37 for 168 yards with a completion rate of 45.9% in the loss. But as Daboll mentioned, the whole loss was not on Wilson.

The quarter-tree has been the punch bag for giant fans in recent seasons. Daniel Jones, who made phenomenal debut with the Indianapolis colts on Sunday, was ousted in mid-season in 2024 due to poor performance. But again, the giant offensive line turned out to be a major problem contributing to poor production.
Wilson suffered from 22 pressure on 45 drops – a rate of almost 50% – which will not do the work on the day of the match. Due to the amount of pressure, Wilson did not cross his readings and had to get the ball out quickly, causing missed throws and minimum earnings.
The Giants also extended a horrible sequence, because they did not score in their third consecutive opening match of the consecutive season, the first time since the Lions of Detroit 1940-42. They combined for 12 points in total during their last three seasonal openers.

But Daboll, who is certainly on the hot seat in this season with the owner John Mara who wants to see better results in the Victory column, will stick to the veteran signal attack instead of going with the recruit to head for another division match against the Cowboys, which are also 0-1 after falling to the Philadelphia Eagles on “Thursday evening.”
