- Github users are fed up with how much they have to use Copilot
- Two of the most popular discussions this year
- Microsoft says that Github Copilot users are increasing in number
Despite the generative fortress of AI in the developer community, where it has been proven to stimulate productivity and increase production (although at the cost of quality, depending on several reports), many Github users want to avoid it actively.
The register found that among the most popular github discussions in the past year, there were two concerning the blocking of the co -pilot from generation / traction requests, and an inability to deactivate the co -pilot code journals – which were not resolved.
Users are apparently unhappy with the Github Copilot intrusion, including the way it trains on the user code without consent.
Github users don’t really want a co -pilot
A discussion author, Andi McClure, has repeatedly filed requests to delete or block the features of co -pilot in Github and VS Code, but has so far failed. McClure notes that community support against Copilot has increased in the last six months.
Despite this, the platform belonging to Microsoft seems determined to grow more and more Genai features on users. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently revealed that Copilot now has 20 million users, noting a 75% quarterly increase in companies.
Nadella also noted that the “family of Microsoft co -pilot applications has exceeded 100 million active users”. Nine companies out of 10 out of 10 are users of Github Copilot, but the developers themselves do not seem too enthusiastic.
The developers are concerned about the “slope” generated by the AI which requires an intensive revision, its use of the code protected by copyright without award, its precision and its accuracy, as well as ethics surrounding its effects of the community.
“Although Microsoft has forced the co -pilot ‘asks for more and more places in the interface for some time, they have reached this year a point of inflection where the number of mass of people no longer want to ignore it, where before they can raise their shoulders and ignore it or find the switch outside the switch,” said McClure The register.
