Defense lawyers contradict three witnesses on Monday at the hearing of a case of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi for having pretended to have used state gifts to obtain a set of jewelry that was presented to them during Imran’s mandate as PM.
A special court heard the case – known as Toshakhana -II – in a courtroom inside Adiala prison, where the couple is held.
During the prison hearing, chaired by special judge Shahrukh Arjumand, the declaration of the personal secretary of the former PM, Inam Shah, was recorded, while the counter-examination of three other witnesses was also completed.
Imran and Bushra were presented in the courtroom. Defense lawyers have uninterrupted the customs assessor of witnesses Rabia Samad, Sana Saeed and ADC Abdullah Khan on their recorded statements.
The sisters of the founder of the PTI were also present, the sister-in-law of Bushra Bibi, Mehrunisa Ahmed, and the head of the PTI, Senator Ali Zafar.
Until now, the counter-examination of declarations of 14 pursuit witnesses has been completed. A pursuit witness, Azeem Manzoor, was abandoned as useless.
On behalf of the accused, the lawyers Qausain Faisal and Arshad Tabraiz appeared, while the special prosecutor Zulfiqar Abbas Naqvi and Umair Majid Malik represented the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
During the next hearing, the defense will contravene the declaration of witness Syed Inam Shah. The hearing was adjourned until September 10.
Meanwhile, an Islamabad anti -terrorist court heard several cases against PTI leaders on Monday, including those linked to the November 26 demonstration, the competing on the alleged elections and the Azadi walking demonstrations.
Judge Tahir Abbas Supra presided over the procedure and pointed out that the ministry of Law had not yet responded to his letter concerning the founder of the PTI. He said a recall would be sent today, urging the state to clarify if it was a question of continuing these cases.
The court marked the accused’s presence and postponed the hearings. Copies of the Challan were distributed in the case of the Kohsar police station, while requests for exemption from the appearance were filed by the heads of PTI Omar Ayub and Ali Nawaz Awan.
Judge Supra pointed out that Omar “only falls ill when he was summoned to court”, to which the defense lawyer replied that the mentioned video was old, not recent.
