Apple has just launched the AirPods Pro 3 among the many other announcements during its last event (catch up with everything that Apple announced during its iphone 17 event here) and as is often the case, some interesting songs was not mentioned in the live flow.
One of them is that my previous favorite factor of the current AirPods Pro 2 has experienced an upgrade in Airpod Pro 3: tracking the precision location that allows your iPhone to literally indicate your AirPods using an arrow on the screen, with a listed distance, if you do not know where they are.
Only a few days ago, I wrote on the Airpod Pro 3 features which would persuade me to go from my faithful Pro 2, and one of them was this exact feature.
Handle the way, Apple Apple
Apple has not mentioned this at all on the virtual stage, but the technological specifications of the AirPods Pro 3 on its website confirm that the new model has an Apple U2 chip for ultra width connectivity, and promises a 1.5x increase in the maximum distance between your lost headphones and your phone on which this technology can work.
It’s great, because my only complaint regarding the monitoring of the UWB location on AirPods Pro 2 is that its distance is failed. If I am at the front of my house, it does not find the AirPods using this system until I head to the back of the house – and I have no big house.
It does not eat much time, but I hope that it will mean that I receive a good very instantly signal each time, so it is even easier to catch them from the pocket of the jacket in which I left them.
However, there is a problem: the U2 chip is on iPhones from the iPhone 15, but Apple says that “improving the conclusion of precision requires the iPhone 17” which is disappointing.
I hope that Apple is conservative here, and everyone will get an upgrade, even if the users of the iPhone 17 obtain the largest and the best upgrade.
I will test this science (well, at home, hiding the two headphones in the same place) once I can get my hands on a pair of new headphones. This should be September 19 – AirPods Pro 3 is available in pre -order today from Apple, for $ 249 / £ 219 / $ 429 in.
