Lahore:
The central president of the PTI and former chief minister of Punjab, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, said that the government should be blamed whenever people drowned in the floods.
“Ordinary people say that the government has done nothing for us, that the leaders are incompetent that they did not inform us of the deluge in time,” said Elahi on Tuesday speaking to the media after attending a court hearing.
He also asked why illegal housing companies were authorized to be built on the river bed and why they were not released in time.
He said that such a flood had never occurred before. In addition to the loss of precious lives, he said, the flood also destroyed crops and livestock.
Elahi said he was going in the areas affected by Gujrat’s floods, his hometown and goods were delivered in the areas affected by the floods.
“It is our national duty to help people affected by floods without any discrimination.”
He said that during his mandate as chief minister between 2002 and 2008 and in 2022, he carried out an unprecedented amount of development work in Gujrat.
“Now that these people [PML-N] came to power, they overwhelmed Gujrat. Although they are in government, they do nothing, “he added.
Elahi said that his government had started working to pose sewer behavior in Gujrat, but the PML-N government has stopped project funding three years ago.
“We must ask them why they arrested the funds. The fault lies in the current government.”
He said that wherever people drown in floods, leaders should be held responsible.
Earlier, the FIA special court heard the money laundering case and asked for arguments from the prosecutor on September 27 on the advocacy for the acquittal of Elahi. The lawyer for the PTI chief, Amir Saeed Rawn, said that the government was an expert in setting up false cases, adding that the court had canceled the arrest warrants against Elahi during his appearance.
