Lahore:
PML-N candidate Rana Sanaullah was elected senator from Punjab during a by-election on Tuesday, obtaining 250 votes.
According to official results, a total of 251 ballots have been recovered from the ballot boxes, 250 of which were declared valid while it was rejected.
Reacting to the victory of Sanaullah, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the leader of the PML-N senior and expressed his best wishes, expressing the confidence that the newly elected senator would play an active role in the effective legislature in the upper chamber.
“Senators have an important role in strengthening the federation and the maintenance of democratic values,” the Prime Minister said in a statement, adding that the elections in the Senate reflected the continuity of the democratic process.
The competition was largely unilateral after the PTI boycotted the electoral process, clearly indicating that any member participating in the vote would challenge party.
Nevertheless, the opposition aligned Salma Ijaz, wife of Ejaz Chaudhry. The siege had fallen vacant following the disqualification of the PTI chief, Ejaz Chaudhry, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison by an anti -terrorist court in the affairs related to the riots of May 9.
