The conjunctivitis epidemic strikes twin cities

Rawalpindi:

A sudden epidemic of conjunctivitis affected the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, which has an impact on a large number of children, women and the elderly, many of whom have requested treatment in hospitals. The increase in cases has also led to increased demand for rose water in the region.

In the past three days, 2,186 patients with conjunctivitis have visited the three major public hospitals – Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto General Hospital and the district headquarters – where they received rapid medical care. Private hospitals and clinics have also reported a significant influx of patients.

According to the assistant medical superintendent, Dr. Inayat, it is the second epidemic of conjunctivitis in the city in the first nine months of the year.

He indicated that, to prevent infection, the eyes should be washed daily with clean water, water must be allowed to gently splash the eyes and black or greenery should be worn. Small ice cubes can be applied to the eyes to facilitate discomfort, and medical consultation should be sought immediately in the event of intense pain.
