When I read the brief premium video synopsis The girlfriendI knew it was going to be a hot watch. New on the Amazon streamer in September 2025, the series follows the link of a mother and a son (frankly, too close) who is disturbed when his new girlfriend arrives on the stage.
Thanks to the double perspectives of the thriller in each episode, we have absolutely no idea of whom is the version of the truth is the true. Daniel (Laurie Davidson) is left like the pig in the middle of disorder … But not before harvesting the advantages of having an incredibly hot girlfriend in Cherry (Olivia Cooke).
But are they still advantages? There is no doubt that the new Amazon show is one of the most erotic of the year, but sometimes it becomes too close to comfort. As you will see in the trailer below, Laura (Robin Wright) is actually present in a particular sex scene, and it is something that immediately seemed “so bad” for Davidson and Cooke.

“It’s the thing – I spent the first four days to build a mother and son relationship with Robin,” said Davidson. “She directs me at the same time. And the next day, Robin is still directing but we shoot Liv and I in a very intimate scene.
“Not the kind of thing you want your mom in the room! I found it very strange, because it was very, very badly. Obviously, it was an incredibly professional set, but it was like … huh. I don’t think you should be here.”
As you can expect, The girlfriendThe intimate scenes can be seen from the start, while Cherry and Daniel meet and quickly become in love with each other. Without spoiling too much, Laura quickly becomes a presence in these ways in several ways, from the possible imagination to, finally, an unhappy timing.
Of course, this has become all the more strange since Wright is behind the camera. With the casting of the praise of its intrepid leader, it was this dynamic that made the shooting of the scenes much more fun than usual for Cooke.
“It’s more exposed than usual,” she told me. “Although I don’t remember that there was a day when it looked too much, and it was quite fun. We have all succeeded so well, we were such a united trio.
“None of these scenes never felt too difficult to access or reach. I have never been led by my colleague actor before, and this chain of command becomes much shorter. Robin is even able to direct me just through the way it occurs. I loved it. It made everything more energetic and effective.”
The six episodes of The girlfriend will be published on Prime Video on September 10.
