Dolby recently announced that Dolby Vision 2, the new generation version of the company’s advanced HDR format, which presents a more advanced image analysis engine and gives control of movement smoothing to creators for the first time, among other upgrades.
Naturally, I wanted to know which television manufacturers would support Dolby Vision 2, and a notable response came from LG, who said that she did not intend to support the new HDR format.
However, LG has since contacted Techradar to update us on its position, and it is actually much more ambivalent. The company has not confirmed that it would support Dolby Vision 2, but clearly said that despite the previous declaration, it did not decide not to one or the other.
“We assess the opportunity and remain determined to offer exceptional visualization experiences,” said Baik Seon-Pill, head of the LG Media Company Solution product planning division, specifically referring to Dolby Vision 2.
It puts it online with Sony, who said to me: “Are we in discussion with Dolby? Yes, but for the moment, we don’t really have a clear statement to make on Dolby Vision 2.”
Who is with Dolby Vision 2?
Hisense is the only company confirmed to support Dolby Vision 2, on a limited number of existing televisions, but more on future televisions.
The first televisions that should obtain the feature will be its next RVB Mini-Lid range, which will be available in sizes of 50 to 100 inch when they arrived at the start of 2026. The company also said that its current Hisense 116ux model can be improved with Dolby Vision 2, a promise that should be a source of relief to the buyers of this $ 30,000 TV.
Beyond Hisense, TCL has not yet made an official statement on Dolby Vision 2, although it displayed a Dolby Vision 2 logo under a TV in its stand during the recent IFA 2025 program.
As for Samsung, the company has never supported Dolby Vision in any of its televisions, so there are few reasons to expect what it plunged for a new generation version of the HDR format. And we have not yet heard the announcements related to Dolby Vision 2 of Panasonic, Roku, Amazon or Philips, although each of these Brands take care of Dolby Vision on its current televisions.
Obviously, with the exception of HDR10 + Faithful Samsung, all these manufacturers of televisions stand with LG to “assess the opportunity” to add Dolby Vision 2 to future televisions. We will undoubtedly learn the decisions they have made in these 2026 when new televisions are announced, as well as plans, if necessary, for the upgrade of older televisions with Dolby Vision 2.
