On Thursday, the Karachites woke up to another series of showers early in the morning – marking the fourth consecutive day of incessant rains from monsoon which left large expanses of the submerged city, overflowing rivers and hundreds inappropriate.
Light to moderate showers were reported in several parts of the city this morning, including my Jinnah Road, II Chundrigar Road, Clifton, University Road and Gulistan-E-Jauhar, briefly wetting the roads and adding to the already soaked atmosphere of the city.
According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), light rains and burnt should continue in the coming 24 hours, with partially cloudy and humid conditions for the city.
Today’s showers have occurred by three days of torrential inconvenience that wreaked havoc through the metropolis from September 8 to 10, resulting in generalized urban floods, infrastructure damage and multiple deaths.
During the last three days, heavy rains have caused the Lyari and Malir rivers – as well as several other rivers – overflowing, flooding the low districts and causing emergency rescue operations.
In some regions, water has entered the houses, moving hundreds of residents. Rescue teams, including Rescue 1122, the province of disaster management (PDMA) and the Pakistani army, have evacuated more than 350 people from the floods.
The city reported multiple deaths after drowning in the overflowing Gad river, while the search for the missing continues.
The precipitation figures published by the Met Office show that the city of Surjani received the highest precipitation, with 143.8 millimeters recorded from September 8 to 10. Other significant readings include Gulshan-E-Maymar (109.8 mm), Gulshan-E-Hadeed (92 mm), Korangi (92 mm), North Karachi (81.6 mm) and DHA (74.5 mm). Sharea Faisal recorded 64 mm, while other regions such as Nazimabad, Saadi Town and University Road have also experienced substantial precipitation.
Although water has now been eliminated from major arteries like Sharea Faisal, the M -9 motorway and the Lyari motorway – which have reopened for traffic – several localities remain water.
The PMD said that the meteorological system that had brought heavy rains to Karachi had now moved away from the city, excluding the chances of another intense drawback fate.
Depression above the North Sea has changed west in the last six hours and is currently located about 110 kilometers in the East-South-East of Pasni, after leaving Karachi. The system should weaken in a well -marked low pressure area in the next 12 hours, the Met Office announced on Wednesday.
