Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sentenced an Israeli strike on Doha on Thursday as a “blatant violation” of Qatar’s sovereignty and international law, engaging the solidarity of Pakistan with the Gulf State and calling for unity in the Muslim world.
During an official visit to express his support after the attack on Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz met Qatar Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani and transmitted the “strongest conviction in Pakistan” of what he called “the cheated assault” of Israel in the Middle East.
He presented condolences for the loss of life and prayed for the restoration of the wounded.
The PM said Pakistan, at the request of Qatar, had requested an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the incident.
He hosted Qatar’s decision to welcome an extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit on Monday and confirmed Pakistan’s desire to co-sponsor and co-condemn the meeting by the organization of Islamic cooperation.
The Prime Minister praised the “responsible, constructive and media” role of Qatar in efforts to ensure peace in Gaza, warning that Israeli actions were intended to destabilize the region and to hinder humanitarian and diplomatic initiatives.
Reaffirming what he called the “historical and fraternal links” between the two nations, Sharif said that Pakistan and Qatar had “held with each other through thick and thin”.
He thanked the Amir for Doha’s support during the previous wait of Pakistan with India and assured that Qatar of Islamabad supported “shoulder on the shoulder” with his direction and his people.
Amir Tamim thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz for his visit and her solidarity gesture.
The two leaders agreed to maintain close coordination to promote regional peace, maintain international law and support Palestinian rights.
