Karachi:
A 29 -year -old man died in a private Karachi hospital due to Naegleria Fowleri, a rare but deadly brain -eating amibe. This marks the fifth death linked to Naegleria in the Sindh so far this year.
According to the Sindh health service, the deceased was a central district resident and began to show symptoms on September 7. He was admitted to the hospital on September 11, but died the same day.
The laboratory tests carried out on September 12 confirmed the presence of Naegleria Fowleri. Health officials said the victim had not participated in any recreational aquatic activity, such as swimming, and had used tap water only to drink and bathe.
Medical experts reiterated concerns about Naegleria’s growing threat in Sindh and urged the public to use boiled or properly chlorinated water. They also stressed the importance of chloration in all water storage facilities to prevent new infections.
