100 new “Mat Schools” launched in Karachi

The Federal Ministry of Education launched 100 new MAT (Community Schools) schools in the metropolis as part of its “non -formal” initiative. The Federal Minister of Education, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, inaugurated the project during a ceremony held on Saturday at the Liaquat library.

The director of non -formal education, director general Hameed Khan Niazi of the General Directorate of Community Schools of Basic Education (BEC), said that the initiative follows the model model, where the main program of grade I to V is completed within 30 months. He declared that thanks to the efforts of the Federal Minister, a set of 100 of these schools had been introduced in the metropolitan city.

Explaining the model, he said that schools were created in community houses to facilitate children outside. The ministry has provided carpets for seats as well as all essential educational documents. Children aged 8 to 16 are eligible for registration. At the end of the program, they can take the Grade V exam and also opt for technical education. Teacher training for these schools will start from October 1.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr. Siddiqui said he was the responsibility of all elected representatives, including himself, to ensure that these schools were maintained. He noted that if hundreds of these schools already existed in districts like Badin, Qambar and Ghotki, Karachi had previously only 35 and Hyderabad.
