Robert Redford, the actor and legendary director known for classics like “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and “All the President’s Men”, died Monday at his mountain residence outside Provo, Utah. He was 89 years old.

The actor has had no known major health problem publicly shared in recent years.

Redford was known to be in good shape and active, but he suffered personal losses (for example, his son Scott died of the sudden death syndrome of the infant in 1959, and another son, David, of cancer in 2020) and survived children’s polio.

“Robert Redford died on September 16, 2025, at his home in Sundance in the Utah mountains, the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved,” said Berger, Chairman and CEO of Rogers & Cowan PMK.

“We will miss a lot. The family asks for confidentiality.”

Redford became one of the biggest Hollywood stars in the 1970s, appearing in acclaimed films, notably “The Sting”.

He then extended to realization and production, by founding the Sundance Film Festival.

In 2002, he received an honorary Oscar, reflecting on the impact of his career on the history of cinema.

He is survived by his wife, Sibylle Szaggars, and two girls, Shauna and Amy, of his first marriage.
