Gujranwala: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested 22 men accused of pretending to be a professional football team after the Japanese immigration authorities discovered their forged travel documents and expelled them.

The imitators, dressed in football kits, said they were registered with the Pakistan Football Federation and had planned matches with a Japanese club.

However, during the interrogation, Japanese immigration officials detected fraud and expelled the group in Pakistan.

The FIA said that the main suspect, Malik Waqas, who had recorded a false football club under the name of Golden Football Trial, was arrested in Gujranwala.

A case was recorded at the Gujranwala police station in FIA and new surveys are underway. Investigators said the organizers billed each man 4 million rupees for travel.

The authorities said that the 22 people had been trained to act as professional players and provided forged documents.

During the interrogation, Waqas admitted that he had previously sent 17 people to Japan in January 2024 using the same Modus Operandi.
