Karachi:
“The Khawatoons” keep returning to the district 19. They have already made more than five shows there. Now the All Girls Comedy Group is expected to perform in the place this Friday in Karachi. The event will continue from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on September 19.
The show promises a night “filled with fresh jokes, quick spirit and the kind of laughter that you don’t want to miss”. He should be 16 and over and we can expect an adult comedy from the group, according to their Instagram.
Speaking at L’Express PK Press Club, Ashika Shaikh, member of the Khawatoon group, said it was a show for women. “It is a safe space for women to enjoy adult comedy,” she said. “Our programs are super interactive and highly dependent on the public participation, so a single show of women allows the ladies to get out of their shell and to unleash with us, so that’s what you should expect.”
Tickets for the event can be purchased in Ticketwala and at the entrance to the place. Each ticket costs 1500 Rs.
The event is organized by the district 19 which is a multifunctional urban space which brings together individuals ready to stretch their minds with new experiences. It is for people sharing the same ideas, inhabitants and travelers. It is also an alternative hotpot to come together in Karachi with a space to create and share, co-work, learn and socialize.
The khawatoons were founded in 2016 by Faiza Saleem. He was and is still the first entirely female comedy troop in Pakistan, which has become strong for nine years now and Ashika has been a part for eight years.
Thinking about work in a comedy field mainly dominated by men in Pakistan, Ashika said that she had to work twice as difficult to stand online with her male counterparts. It is because they are not only doing comedy, they also actively fight on the stereotype that women are not funny. “So you work very hard to appease an audience that you are not funny,” she said.
Offering a more positive perspective on their personal trip, Ashika said: “We were lucky and we have been there for so long that we have found our voice and we found our place and our people.” Their current members of the troop consists of FAIZA, Ashika, Jaweria Khan, Amtul Baweja, Nimra Ali Zaidi, Amtul Baweja, Shanzeh Ishtiaq and Zemal Amin.
The group has played in different places around Karachi throughout the year like Iba City Campus and Habitt City and is preparing for their next show.
So, bring your friends together and expect ladies’ jokes this week!
