Money no object
We like to give practical purchase advice on the latest gadgets here in Techradar. But sometimes what we even like more is to engage in the most ridiculous, high -end, advanced and advanced luxurious technology on the planet. This is what we bring to you in these silver columns without object – you can read the whole series here.
The French audio specialist Devialet launched two new models from his famous ghost speaker, which, according to him, represents “the ultimate in luxury audio engineering”.
The new models are the ultimate 108DB lighthouse, which is $ 3,800 (around £ 2,800 / $ 5,700 in), and the most affordable (relatively speaking) 98dB, which is $ 1900 (£ 1,400 / $ 2,850 at). There is also an even more luxurious edition of $ 4,300 / $ 2,400 Opera in Paris of each ultimate speaker accentuated with the 22 carat gold leaf.
The two models have a slightly different design from the original ghost: the Woofer nucleus cover is absent, and there is a new tweeter grille with an optimized opening. Devialet says that only has taken six months of research and “countless iterations”.
We are used to an interesting design of Devialet, but what is really interesting about the new ghosts compared to the old models, or the best wireless speakers in general, this is what is inside.
Ghosts and opera are there
Ghost speakers are delivered with an avalanche of acronyms: ADH, SAM, HBI and AVL.
ADH is abbreviated for the hybrid digital analog, and it combines class A and class D amplification with improved algorithm to bring the best of both worlds, offering frequencies up to 35 kHz on the ultimate 108DB.
SAM means the active correspondence of the loudspeaker, which monitors the pilots in real time to optimize audio reproduction.
My favorite is the slightly frightening HBI, which is the implosion of the bass of the heart: it is “a series of multiple innovations” which falls into the bottom at an exceptionally low 14hz.
And finally AVL, the adaptive volume level, appeared for the first time in the Dione Devialet sound bar and automatically adjusts the volume depending on the type of content.
They are all managed by a new MXP I.MX 8M MXP processor which, according to Devialet, offers “advanced audio treatment with improved energy efficiency and optimized performance”.
In terms of specifications, you are considering a frequency range from 14 Hz to 35 kHz and 1,100 W of amplification in the 108 dB and 18 Hz ultimate at 25 kHz with 400 W in the 98 DB Ultimate. The two models have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, Airplay, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, UPNP and are ready for Roon.
The Phantom Ultimate 98DB is available now and the 108DB is available in pre-order.
