Islamabad:
Pakistan reiterated its commitment to fighting cancer and strengthening international health care cooperation during a parallel event at the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, entitled “Beyond Boundaries: The Rays of Hope Anchor Centers Network and the future of cancer care”.
Offering the Pakistan Declaration, President of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar, noted that more than 180,000 new cancer cases are reported each year in the country. To remedy this burden, PAEC has created 20 nationwide cancer hospitals, serving more than 80% of patients and providing diagnostic and processing services for free or at subsidized rates – directly supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Objective (SDG) on good health and well -being.
He underlined the active role of Pakistan in the Rays of Hope initiative of IAEA, the sharing of expertise, training and best practices with developing countries under South-South and SDG 17 cooperation on partnerships for objectives.
