King Charles gave a rare overview of the United Kingdom and the American “special” link while the royal family welcomed President Donald Trump and his family to the state banquet for diplomatic dinner.
During the celebration of the American president’s visit to the United Kingdom at the Château de Windsor, the 76-year-old king thought about the long history of the two countries, noting the “special” dynamic, via People.
He recalled how much the different things were in 1776, saying: “I can’t help but ask myself what our ancestors of 1776 would today have this friendship”, noting that President George Washington and his “great-grandfather at five times” King George III once exchanged hard words.
The monarch added: “Today we are celebrating a relationship between our two countries which, without surely Washington or King George III, could not have imagined.”
Recalling his first visit to us, when he met President Richard Nixon and escorted by his daughter, Tricia Nixon and almost marry the Nixon family, the king joked “, if the media had succeeded in the 1970s in their own attempt to deepen the special relationship, I was able to be married in the Nixon family.”
Charles also mentioned Trump’s ties with Great Britain in a light way, saying: “I understand that British soil has rather splendid golf courses!”
