- NYBCE underwent a cyber attack in January 2025, exposing data sensitive to patients and financiers
- Victims may include people with SSNs, identification numbers or direct deposit information; Exact unknown account
- NYBCE cannot inform all victims due to missing contact details, rather offers free identity monitoring
A non -profit organization of American blood services had admitted to having undergone a cyber attack in which it has lost sensitive information on a non -disclosed number of people.
New York Blood Center Enterprises (NYBCE) confirmed that it had spotted an intrusion on January 26, 2025, which caused an investigation with the help of third -party experts. The survey determined that unidentified threat actors had reached its network a week earlier – January 20 – and during this time, it slipped sensitive information to patients.
“In order to carry out these services, we receive limited clinical information from health care providers and partners. Some of this information may have been involved in a cybersecurity incident that we have recently discussed, “said the opinion.
Inform victims
In a separate file with the Maine Prosecutor General’s Office, the NYBCE confirmed the incident, but has not listed the exact number of people affected.
He said that the data vary from person to person, but most likely include his name, social security number (SSN), driving license or other government identification card number and / or information on financial accounts – if the person has participated in direct deposit.
In the website announcement, the organization has also said that “information on the health and the results of the limited tests” may also have been stolen.
But the worst is that Nybce is not able to correctly inform all the victims:
“We do not collect or maintain the contact details for people for whom we provide clinical services. Consequently, we are unable to send letters to people whose information may have been involved,” he also announced.
Therefore, people who think they could have been affected are invited to call the organization’s confidential call center.
NYBCE also offers a free year of credit and identity flight flight surveillance via IdentityWork Experian and works on “improving security protocols”.
