- Microsoft declares that its Wisconsin data center is 10 times more powerful than today
- The company will have invested more than $ 7 billion in the project
- Its first installation will open its doors at the beginning of 2026, a second arrives within three years
Microsoft has deleted the wraps of what he calls “the most powerful IA data center in the world” in Wisconsin, which, according to the company, should be 10 times more powerful than the fastest supercomputer today.
Based on the hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GPUs, all connected by enough fiber to wrap the planet four times, and everything is in preparation to train new generation border models.
However, by responding to the learnings that have been taught so far to us, Microsoft makes great progress in terms of sustainability to make this data center less damaging than those preceding.
The most powerful IA data center in the world
Microsoft president Brad Smith explained that the center will be cooled at 90% with recirculated liquid using a closed loop system with no operating water waste – the remaining 10% of the cooling power will come from outside air.
Smith compared the use of water provided for that of the annual consumption of a single restaurant.
Microsoft will also use prepaid renewable energies to correspond to each kWh fossil fuels with carbon -free energy while building a large 250 MW solar project to support the installation.
And it is not a long -term investment or a sign of things to come – a first investment of $ 3.3 billion will have the first live installation at the beginning of 2026. Another investment of $ 4 billion will open a second installation within three years.
Smith also boasted of the local ecological efforts of Microsoft, such as the restoration of the habitats of meadows and wetlands in the counties of Racine and Kenosha and new catering works near Lake Michigan, Lamparek Creek, the Kirkorian Park and the Shagbark Restoration area.
Apart from the 500 full -time employees who should occupy roles on the first campus and the additional 300 on the second campus, Microsoft also indirectly supported 3,000 jobs during advanced construction.
The 315 acres site will be part of a network of more than 400 Microsoft data centers in 70 regions, with additional plans to associate with NSCALE to build the largest supercomputer in the United Kingdom showing that Microsoft does not intend to slow down.
