- Peacemaker Season 2 episode 5 presents a brutal scene between Rick Flag Sr and Chris Smith
- Frank Grillo, who embodies the SR flag, raised the cover on how the ultra-violent sequence was staged
- It may not be the only time we see the duo competing in the HBO Max TV show
Peacemaker The star of season 2, Frank Grillo, opened the incredibly violent interrogation scene between Rick Flag SR and Chris Smith by John Cena.
Before the return of the HBO Max Show at the end of August, I sat with Grillo to discuss the brutal brutal of flag sr of the anti-hero holder in the fifth episode of this season. Complete spoilers immediately follow for season 2 and 2021 The suicide team.
Peacemaker Season 2 episode 5, entitled “Back to the suture”, sees Flag Sr finally get what he wanted for years: the chance to viciously beat the man who killed his son.
Remember, The suicide teamSmith assassinates Rick Flag Jr but, until Flag Sr was made of the new head of Argus, he does not know who is responsible for the death of his son. Once he discovered it, Flag Sr passes the full season 2 – to this point, anyway – trying to find Peacemaker.
In short, he finally finds himself face to face with Smith after the latter’s arrest very early in “Back to the suture”. After having said to his deputies from Argus Sasha Bordeaux and Langston Fleury to leave and Smith in a interrogation room, the SR flag wasted no time to resolve a little long -standing punishment – not to mention the absolutely unforgiving punishment – of the eponymous character.
Given the level of violence exposed, I was curious to know how far everyone was ready to push this incredibly fierce sequence to guarantee viewers a complete impact. As Grillo testifies, the director of episode 6 Alethea Jones, co -owner of DC Studios James Gunn, the stunt team of the series and his actor partner in Cena were all to make him as visceral and impactful as possible.
“Violence is so linked to emotions that it is in the bottle and has built [for some time]”Grillo said about the SR flag flag takes care of one of the best HBO Max shows.” He [the anger] is like an eruption volcano [out of him]So they let me go as little as possible. John [Cena]In particular was such a champion because he didn’t want me to hold back.
“They [Gunn, Cena, and Jones] Really, let flag have his moment, “Grillo continued.” And, even if it gets this, there is always a level of frustration because of the way Peacemaker does not really do the same thing and simply lets it happen. So it is a bit that he falls a little short for the flag, because it is so unilateral. It does not hold as much satisfaction as it hoped, and I think it is a large narrative choice. “”
The dissatisfaction that Grillo speaks is the result of the SR flag which was prevented from Putting Smith to submission. With Emilia Harcourt and John Economos intervening by “Reservation” Smith – that is to say, record his arrest – through the Argus database, Flag Sr is forced to release Smith on bail.
This does not mean that Flag SR is done with Smith in the DC Universe television show (DCU). Smith may have left his original reality for the apparently idyllic alternative dimension which, he has become obsessed, but with three episodes of the last season of the DCU Chapter One project to come, another confrontation could be to come.
Gunn, editor -in -chief of the show and principal director, also suggested as much. Asked who would gain a fight between Smith and Flag SR on the last episode of the official podcast of the peacemaker, Gunn hinted that another fight could be in the pipeline before the end of season 2.
“You know, I think – we have to leave this one to fate,” said Gunn, before teasing: “because there can be still … One day we can see him”. Place your bets on the question of whether it will happen now.
