The Punjab monsoon season ended and rivers flows returned to normal, the provincial director of disaster management (PDMA) said on Friday, Ali Kathia, while describing the damage caused by the province’s floods and rescue operations.
During a press conference, Kathia confirmed that all the rivers were now at normal levels. The Chenab does not show any peak from Marala to Panjnad and the water fell from Jassar to Sadhnai, although the Sutlej continues to wear a slightly higher flow.
He reported that 22 kilometers from the Multan-Sukkur motorway (M-5) remain closed due to the floods, with 10 to 12 kilometers underwater, but repair work is underway. The Jalalpur-Lodhran road also remains closed.
Rawaj Bridge, Sadhnai and Multan’s violation points are filled as the level of Chenab falls.
The DG PDMA said that 4,795 villages in 28 districts have been affected, which has an impact on 407,030 people.
More than 612,800 residents and two million animals were evacuated.
In southern Punjab, 331 rescue camps house approximately 106,000 people, supported by 425 medical and mobile clinical camps.
Until now, the floods have caused 123 deaths and damaged 2.58 million acres of agricultural land, Gujrat and Faisalabad undergoing the worst harvest losses.
The corn was strongly affected, the rice lost 15% of its yield, the sugar cane by 13% and the cotton 5%. The reports indicate that 824 animals remain missing, pending verification of the investigation.
An investigation into the evaluation of damage covering crops, livestock and human losses will begin on September 24 under the direction of the chief minister of Punjab.
In Jalalpur Pirwala, flood waters fell two feet at Noooraja Bhutta, Chak 87-M, Basti Sawa, the motorway exchanger, Basti Lang and Bahadurpur, but a flood “of 8 to 10 feet still exists, keeping the critical situation,” said local officials.
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan visited Multan, meeting the chairman of the MNA and Kashmir committee, Rana Qasim, Noon. “The flood has caused serious damage to farmers’ crops. Permanent and long -term planning is necessary.”

The levels of flooding at the Sindh dams improve, with Sukkur recording entries of 399,000 Cuses, Guddu 426,000 and Kotri 315,000.
Sukkur and Guddu remain at the average flood level, while Kotri is at a low flood stadium, according to the Sukkur dam control room.
