Bhera Murded City to keep

Lahore:

The Department of Archeology of Punjab has launched a plan for the conservation and development of the fortified city of historic Bhera. The initiative includes the preservation of old walls, the restoration of bridges, the improvement of the urban fabric and the supply of installations adapted to visitors while ensuring that the cultural identity and the authenticity of Bhera remain intact.

According to a press release, the program reflects the chief vision minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, to link heritage conservation to cultural pride and the development led by tourism.

A former official of the department, Muhammad Hassan, said that Bhera is among the oldest colonies in the subcontinent, and its conservation means relaunching living culture which has once prospered in its walls.

Another former director of archeology, Malik Maqsood, added that the restoration of bridges, mosques and residential clusters not only would protect the heritage but would also benefit the community thanks to sustainable tourism.
