- False websites IC3 encourage users to provide personal and banking information
- Cybercriminals reach areas of trust and associate them with phishing emails for redirection
- The FBI warns that the USurpée IC3 sites can mislead the victims by trying to report cybercrime
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The office recently published a new public service ad to warn the malware destination pages, which are the main center of the US government for reporting cybercrime.
He collects complaints concerning online scams, fraud, identity theft, ransomware and other internet compatible crimes, then sharing with law enforcement organizations to help investigate and follow digital threats across the country and in the world.
Imitate the government
Anyone, whether victims or third parties, can submit a report on the official IC3 website. Although not all cases get a direct response, data helps the FBI understand wider trends and take measures when possible.
“Threat actors often create usurped websites by slightly modifying the characteristics of legitimate website areas, in order to collect personally identifiable information entered by a user on the site, including the name, reception address, telephone number, email address and bank information,” warned the FBI.
For example, usurped website areas may include alternative word spelling or use another high level area to usurp the identity of a legitimate website.
Public members could visit the Spoofed websites without knowing it while trying to find the FBI IC3 website to submit an IC3 report.
Cybercriminals reach legitimate websites all the time. False Google or Amazon connection pages are created to steal identification information for the workspace or cloud services. Fraudulent banking pages are created to encourage people to give access to their bank accounts, and social media sites are usurped to access company accounts and propagate malware via paid advertising.
These sites are generally associated with a phishing email campaign, which are used to redirect victims without lifting suspicion.
