- 2025 is the first year of a decade without new black action cam action cam
- Gopro launched the Max 2 360 camera and the entry -level lit hero instead
- GoPro says that the story of the black hero is not over
The new GoPros in September are one of the few tech certainties, but 2025 has just been a big surprise – it will be the first year in a decade without a new flagship Black Hero product.
Ready for the hero 14 Black Unveil, we rather received news from the new hero of Gopro Max 2 and Gopro Lit. The old 360 camera is the long -awaited successor of Max in 2019, while the second is an upgrade of the entry -level hero 2024.
We asked Gopro comments on her Hero Black Series plans, and his SVP Global Marketing and Communications, Rick Loughery, told us,
“For 2025, Gopro will continue with Hero 13 Black as main flagship camera. The speed of our technological innovation has been incredible in recent years, and we think that Hero 13 Black remains one of the most advanced and competent cameras on the market.
“We focus on the prioritization of the camera that our GoPro community is most impatient to add to their content toolbox, and this year, it’s Max 2. And if 360 is not what you are looking for, reads hero also satisfies the need for a more traditional action camera in the range of this year.”
Gopro assured us that the story of the black hero is not over. However, there could be test times in advance for the king of the action camera, with speculation that Dji will soon launch the Osmo Action 6, with a 1 -inch beating sensor of the GoPro, an 8K video and an advanced integration of the smart watch.
Does the legendary line of action cams slow down?
Gopro has established CAM action standards for years, delivering the first in industry to its flagship series of Black Hero cameras. Since the 2016 5 black hero, there has been a new model each year around September, culminating in The Hero 13 Black last year.
There have been recent signs that the series slows down, with the latest models providing iterative updates and using the same 4: 3 stabilized sensor for a 5.3K smooth video. At the same time, new players have entered the scene: DJI and Insta360.
Currently, there is a tasty three battle for the best action camera, between the hero of Gopro 13 Black, the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro and the Insta360 ACE Pro 2.
Each brand has its own interpretation of the format, and I am in fact a big fan of the last GoPro, especially for its swapple objectives – one of the best Gopro features for years. The hero 13 Black is also similar to the hero 12 Black, which was also a super modest successor of the excellent Hero 11 Black.
To be clear, I don’t mind extending the pace of its flagship launches of the action cams of action. I feel the same thing about the main smartphones by Apple, Samsung and Google – Do we really need a new model every year?
I prefer that Gopro will take his time to work on significant upgrades for a future model, probably a black hero. It is strange that there is no new model this year – a new black hero is something that we are used to seeing every fall.
What do you think of Gopro’s 2025 product launches and the absence of a new Black Hero flagship product? Do not hesitate to share your reflections in the comments below.
